Land Trust of Virginia

The Land Trust of Virginia helps landowners to conserve their property by voluntarily limiting development while keeping the land open for forestry, farming, and recreation. In most cases, the property remains in private ownership with the peace of mind that it is protected now and forever.

More specifically, the Land Trust of Virginia:

  • Assists property owners who want to put their land into an easement
  • Monitors land under easement to document its condition and inspect for violations
  • Works with local communities to identify and preserve important resources
  • Funds additional donor-supported initiatives that provide focused support to local and statewide preservation projects
  • Joins with conservation organizations across Virginia to protect its rural landscape Working with our members and volunteers, state agencies and other conservation organizations, the Land Trust of Virginia preserves thousands of acres of Virginia's open spaces — forever.

The Land Trust of Virginia is chartered to hold easements in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and currently holds easements in Loudoun, Fauquier, Clarke, Rappahannock, Madison, Culpeper, King George, Stafford, Hanover, and Green Counties, and the City of Fredericksburg.
