Blue Ridge Land Conservancy

The Blue Ridge Land Conservancy (BRLC) was formed as the Western Virginia Land Trust  in 1996. Our mission is to preserve our region’s unique scenic, historic, agricultural, recreational and natural features. Originally, the organization served all of western Virginia, from Botetourt County all the way down to Lee County. As the land preservation movement grew, other organizations were formed to help save land in this region. As a result of this growth in capacity as well as a desire to better serve a core geographic area, the organization limited its service area to seven counties: Bedford, Botetourt, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Montgomery, and Roanoke. In late 2012, the organization decided to take another big step and change its name from the Western Virginia Land Trust to the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy.

BRLC is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit and is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance. BRLC is one of just 135 land trusts nationwide (out of 1,700) to obtain accreditation.
