Sempervirens Fund traces its heritage back to the Sempervirens Club which was formed in 1900 to insure the purchase and protection of the Big Basin redwoods. Big Basin Redwoods State Park, created in 1902, is California's oldest state park. Today's Sempervirens Fund continues to buy redwood forest land, and work closely with the State of California and other public and private agencies to expand the boundaries of the redwood parklands in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Sempervirens Fund is committed to linking parks and open spaces to provide an integrated parkland system that provides for public recreation while also protecting habitat and supporting species diversity.
