to give permanent protection to the beauty, character and diversity of the San Francisco Peninsula and Santa Cruz Mountain range. POST encourages the use of these lands for natural resource protection, wildlife habitat, low-intensity public recreation and agriculture for people here now and for future generations.
POST's unique and effective approach to land protection taps the power of both private and public sectors. Using funds from private donors, we move quickly to purchase critical open spaces as opportunities arise. Private dollars also enable us to leverage matching funds from state and federal agencies to secure the Peninsula's precious natural legacy.
Applying this successful formula, POST is protecting one of the world's last remaining accessible rural coastlines near a major metropolitan area. Our Saving the Endangered Coast campaign attracted the support from people who love the San Mateo Coast's singular open spaces. We raised $200 million to secure permanent protection of 20,000 precious coastal acres. By saving these lands from development as private estates and subdivisions, we ensure their survival as wildlife habitat, public recreation areas, farms and ranches, and places that enrich and restore the human spirit – now and for future generations.
