Opacum Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) non profit founded in 2000 to protect the natural and cultural resources of south-central Massachusetts. As of 2007, 498 acres of viable open space and essential wildlife habitat have been protected. Three properties (Opacum Woods, The Claire Birtz Wildlife Sanctuary and The Thompson Family Forever Wild Preserve) have trails that are open to the public for passive recreation. Opacum Land Trust also holds an easement along portions of the Grand Trunk Trail.
Opacum Land Trust is a local, volunteer group that works with landowners who are interested in protecting their property. This is done through donation or purchase, bargain sales, and the use of conservation restrictions or easements.
