Dr. Julie Ann Gustanski, LLM, CFP | Land Use Economist | Conservation Strategist | CEO, Resource Dimensions
With nearly four decades of experience in land use economics, conservation planning, and the strategic use of conservation easements, I’ve dedicated my career to exploring and strengthening the intersection of people, policy, and place.
Since co-founding Resource Dimensions in 1994, I’ve taught resource and ecological economics, published extensively on land conservation tools, and led both multi-million-dollar county-level farmland preservation initiatives and land trust efforts. And, have directed an interdisciplinary team of economists, planners, policy analysts, and conservation specialists on projects across the U.S. and internationally—from Washington State to the UK, Mexico, and Southeast Asia. At the heart of our work is a shared mission: to support landowners, tribes, NPO's, communities and governments in navigating the intricate connections between natural resources, land use, and sustainable development.
My work has encompassed urban growth management, farmland preservation, public lands planning, community-based economic development, and the ethical dimensions of sustainability policy. I’ve partnered with private landowners, corporations, land trusts, nonprofits, and a range of government agencies across more than two dozen states to develop enduring conservation strategies, smart growth frameworks, and innovative funding mechanisms. Along the way, we’ve served hundreds of clients—urban and rural, local and international—each with distinct challenges, yet all striving toward shared goals: resilience, stewardship, and equity.
Resource Dimensions has been privileged to contribute to the land conservation movement since its early days. Several of our senior associates were foundational in shaping the tools and policies still in use today. Collectively, we bring over 300 years of experience in land trust development, easement strategy, and the integration of green infrastructure into community fabric.
We believe successful conservation is not only ecological—it’s economic, cultural, and deeply human. And we remain committed to supporting communities and the next generation conservation leaders with grounded, research-informed, and values-driven guidance.
Let’s connect if you’re working at the intersection of land, community, and policy—especially where conservation of land and resources are central to the conversation.
