HeadWaters Land Conservancy was founded in 1993 by 10 volunteers who wanted the unmatched beauty of northeast Michigan to be preserved for generations to come. Since then, the conservancy has grown phenomenally, preserving more land and waterfront with each year.
We work to protect the “Up North” you enjoy by protecting open space, waterfront, wildlife habitat and farmland in Northeast Michigan.
HWLC helps protect pristine rivers such as the Au Gres, Au Sable, Black, Manistee, Ocqueoc, Pigeon, Pine, Rifle, Sturgeon and Thunder Bay by protecting the land surrounding them. In addition, our Big Lands Initiative is protecting land for the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi River.
