Harwich Conservation Trust

Mission: The mission of the Harwich Conservation Trust is to preserve forever the woods, wetlands, and other natural areas in the town of Harwich.

"Overlooking Mill Pond, a quarter-acre donated in 1990 represents the Trust's very first piece of land preserved forever. Looking west from the property, the stunning sight of a shimmering autumn sunset is reflected in the still water."
History: The Trust is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1988 by citizens concerned with the rapid pace of development threatening the fragile natural resources of Harwich. The Trust permanently protects natural areas by receiving land donations, holding conservation restrictions on properties, and purchasing land throughout Harwich. We are not affiliated with town government.

As of September 2003, the Trust had secured 263 acres of protected open space, starting back in 1990 with a quarter acre lot in East Harwich overlooking Mill Pond. We have acquired and preserved woodland north of Coy's Brook which is the major tributary to the Herring River, land next to public drinking water supplies, historic cranberry bogs in the heart of Harwich as well as quiet white cedar wetlands and wide open salt marsh vistas.
