Berry Creek Fire Safe Council

The Berry Creek FireSafe Council is a community-wide, non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve our community's natural and man-made resources by mobilizing the people of Berry Creek to make their homes, neighborhoods and community "Fire Safe". The council is focused on fire prevention in Wildland Interface Areas (like our neighborhoods) and does not get involved in promoting smoke detectors and other local fire department issues. Since the council is a non-profit organization, it is eligible for grants that would not be available to either its member organizations or individuals.

The council's members and supporters include fire fighting and protection organizations like CalFire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection) and the Berry Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

The council is not just for professionals - several homeowners are council members. Homeowners, residents, and representatives of all interested organizations are welcome to attend the meetings which are held on the third Thursday of the month at 6PM at the Berry Creek Fire Station, 287 Rockerfeller Road (across from the school.)

The council helps organize real fuel reduction projects such as the chipper program, and recently completed a shaded fuel break demonstration on Bald Rock Road just down the road from the Sugar Pine Saloon. The council also was successful in getting a grant for the emergency radio system (1250 on your AM dial). The council also offers free home visits to give suggestions to homeowners on how to make their own property safer from wildland fires. To schedule an appointment, call 589-1012

Before you say this organization isn't for you, please remember that we live in a Wildland Interface Area; the local fires last year were a vivid reminder that we all need to stay vigilant to prevent a repeat of that event.   Please come to our FireSafe Council meetings to help our community stay prepared.
