This monarch butterfly is losing its home right here in the United States.

A monarch butterfly flits about your garden, landing on one flower and another.  You watch in amazement at the beauty of its orange and black wings and the wonderment of its being.  How does such a delicate creature exist?

You're seeing fewer of these beautiful monarchs.  Have you asked yourself why?

Loss of breeding and food habitat along the migration route and less overwintering habitat in Mexico and southern California have been major factors in the decline of monarchs, but these are not the only reasons.  Other contributing challenges are the weather, pesticides, deforestation in Mexico, predators, pathogens, and parasites.

Private lands provide habitat and breeding ground for the wild species we all love--inclulding the monarch butterfly.

The future of our nation's resources--and the protection of wildlife--is in the hands of private landowners who are the key stewards of 71% of all land in the lower 48 states.  The Land Conservation Assistance Network has built web-based tools and a network of resources designed specifically for your family and friends who want to conserve our natural resources, keeping the legacy of a beautiful rural America for future generations to enjoy.

LandCAN will soon include resources for the monarch butterfly on its Habitat Conservation Assistance Network webpage.  HabitatCAN provides information on select species that are at risk and the conservation measures that can be used to restore and conserve their habitat.  Stay tuned as we do the research and develop the site!

The online resources are FREE--because of the generosity of hundreds of caring people over the past 18 years.  Your gift today can help educate and empower private landowners and ensure that declining species such as the monarch butterfly can be sustainably managed.

Please join us as we support conservation stewardship for working lands.

Together, we can ensure that rural America has a strong environmental future that will ensure you continue to see the monarch--and other wildlife--in your home state!
