Poinsett County Extension

We are part of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service’s statewide network and the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture.  Our mission is to provide research-based information through non-formal education to help all Arkansans improve their economic well-being and the quality of their lives.  Whether it is agriculture, 4-H, health and living, or community development, the Poinsett County Extension Office is at your service!

Our classrooms are found in open fields or on the tailgate of a pickup. You will find us among Arkansas' 33 million acres of crops, livestock and natural resources. You will find us in conference centers, public schools, community centers, courthouses, in the classroom and in the lab. That is why "Arkansas is Our Campus."

4-H Program

The Poinsett County Extension staff has made growing 4-H a top priority by introducing this new generation of youth and potential leaders to the 4-H program.  Through fund-raisers, fliers, radio interviews, new clubs, school programs, leader training, and news articles, we have grown the Poinsett County 4-H program.  4-H'ers from years past are also involved with the program to show the youth the positive impact 4-H has had on their lives.  The county staff is opening new doors by building their clubs around educational yet entertaining activities.

Agriculture

Poinsett County has 418 farms with 340,704 acres in production. Rice and Soybeans are the major crops grown in the county with significant acres of cotton, corn, wheat, and grain sorghum as well.  We also have several livestock and forage producers. The Poinsett County Extension Service works with producers, consultants, and industry associates to make a positive impact on Arkansas agriculture. We also enjoy assisting our county residents with lawn, landscape, and garden questions around the home or office.

Family & Consumer Sciences Program

The Family and Consumer Sciences program strives to enhance resident's knowledge and skills in the areas of family life, nutrition, health, personal finance, and aging. The primary goal is to provide a variety of research-based programs to fulfill the needs of the county. These programs include Best Care, Guiding Children Successfully, Fit in 10, Small Steps to Health & Wealth, and Cook Smart Eat Smart.
