Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District

Mission
Working together for healthy soil and clean water

Nassau County Soil & Water Conservation District is one of 58 county districts in NY State that provide “on the ground” assistance for soil and water resources, preservation of wildlife, and promote the health, safety, and welfare of residents in their respective communities.

Our purpose is to protect, preserve, restore, and enhance natural resources through education and technical assistance. We provide programs and technical services to all Nassau County residents and municipalities to manage our precious natural resources.
We foster coordination among municipalities and other key stakeholders to develop locally-driven solutions to natural resource concerns in Nassau County. We work together for clean water and healthy soils with individuals, municipalities, private and public organizations, and schools. Some partners are: Soil & Water Conservation Districts in every county in NY State, New York Sea Grant, Cornell Cooperative Extensions of Nassau and Suffolk, Operation SPLASH, Watershed Protection Committees (Manhasset Bay, Hempstead Harbor, and Oyster Bay – Cold Spring Harbor), and the local office of the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS).
