Maui Coastal Land Trust

The Kauai Public Land Trust, Oahu Land Trust, Maui Coastal Land Trust and Hawai’i Island Land Trust have merged to form the Hawaiian Islands Land Trust.

To preserve and protect coastal lands in Maui Nui for the benefit of the natural environment and of current and future generations.

Maui Coastal Land Trust is a non-political, non-profit organization that works with private landowners, neighborhoods, community groups and government agencies to protect significant environmental and cultural resources in perpetuity. The protected resources are site specific and may include shoreline access and recreation, endangered species habitat, agricultural lands or culturally significant sites.

In some cases MCLT may own and manage the land, but more commonly, the landowner retains control and management of his or her property, but donates to the land trust a Conservation Easement which limits any development potential and specifies what can and cannot be done on the property.
