LaSalle Parish Extension
LaSalle Parish is in East Central Louisiana, about 50 miles west of Natchez, Miss., on US Highway 84. The parish consists of 664 square miles and has five municipal areas: Jena, Trout, Olla, Urania and Tullos. The economy is based on the oil and timber industries.

Agriculture & Natural Resources

LaSalle Parish has a varied group of agriculture producers. These include those with a small acreage of row crops, part-time beef producers and home gardeners. Safe and proper uses of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as variety selection and use, are of great interest to all. Residents utilize the soil testing services that are available through the local office. Recommendations are given for fertilization of home grounds and gardens.

Community Rural Development (CRD)

Live Lively LaSalle!, a $2 million project funded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Louisiana and local partners, will provide park infrastructure, including 2.5 miles of walking trails, playground and outdoor fitness equipment, splash park, outdoor basketball court and two farmers markets. Nutrition education, healthier menu items at local restaurants and fitness center scholarships to individuals with health risks are also included. Lead LaSalle, a 12-hour leadership development series, is designed to increase interpersonal communication and leadership skills. Graduates will become more engaged in community decision making and are eligible to participate in Lead LaSalle 2.
