LaPrele Irrigation District

The LaPrele Irrigation District (“LaPrele” or “District”), located entirely within Converse County, Wyoming, was previously known as the “Douglas Reservoir Water Users Association.”  The District, which serves 106 water users, has direct flow water rights out of LaPrele Creek and operates the LaPrele Reservoir.  Irrigation water is delivered to District Shareholders through the LaPrele Main Canal, the West Side Ditch, and several laterals.  The system is made up of approximately 120 miles of conveyance length.  The LaPrele Reservoir, which was originally permitted in 1905, has a capacity of 20,000 acre-feet and is used to irrigate approximately 11,462 acres within the District.

District lands are located west of the City of Douglas and adjacent to Interstate Route I-25.  District lands lie between the Laramie Range and the North Platte River.  The District is composed primarily of ranching operations that use the irrigated lands for growing feed for cattle, including alfalfa, grass hay, oats, barley and irrigated pasture.
