Kevin Knowles

Kevin Knowles, CLG’s founder, has worked in the conservation real estate field exclusively since 1989. A licensed California real estate broker, Kevin has extensive experience negotiating, managing and closing complex land and conservation easement projects on behalf of both buyers and sellers. Prior to founding CLG, Kevin was a Project Manager with The Trust for Public Land in San Francisco.

Kevin’s real estate experience also includes commercial brokerage and residential development work for Coldwell Banker Commercial and Signature Properties, respectively. He received a B.A. in American Studies from Stanford University in 1987. Kevin is a California native and avid outdoors enthusiast.

Since 1995, Conservation Land Group (CLG) has specialized in structuring and completing conservation real estate transactions, including conservation easements, on behalf of private landowners, non-profit land trusts and foundations, mitigation purchasers, and public land management agencies. CLG acts as a real estate broker, consultant or strategic advisor for buyers and sellers of natural resource properties in California, including working farms, range and timber lands, endangered species habitat, wetlands, coastal properties, trail and river corridors, wilderness inholdings, and cultural/historic sites. CLG has a proven track record of completing complex conservation real estate projects in a timely manner and ensuring that its clients' personal, financial and/or organizational goals are accomplished.

CLG assists landowners in developing and implementing strategies that are tailored to their individual or organizational needs, including financial and conservation goals, and the specific attributes of their property and its use.

Through our unique understanding of the options available to landowners of properties with significant biological, agricultural, scenic, recreational, and other conservation values, CLG works with you to craft a comprehensive strategy for the sale or donation of your land. Conservation Options

Once a strategy has been selected, CLG provides much-needed guidance for owners who can be overwhelmed by the complexity of conservation transactions, including valuation, tax, legal, and other matters. We handle nearly all aspects of the project until completion, including marketing the property or partial interests (conservation easements) to potential purchasers or donees, negotiating and documenting transaction terms, working with buyers to resolve due diligence matters and to secure required regulatory approvals, encouraging public and philanthropic organizations to direct funds toward the project, and overseeing title and escrow matters.

Our landowner clients range from long-time ranching and farming families to residential development firms and corporations.
