Jiggs Conservation District

Mission Statement To take available technical, financial, and educational resources, whatever their source, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local land user for conservation of soil, water and related resources.

Planning and Service:

Provide for involvement of other agencies, organizations and individuals in the annual planning and implementation of district operations and programs.

  • Identify and prioritize Resource Concerns within the District in order to coordinate with the NRCS in resource planning and program implementation 
  • Continue supporting the Elko County Cooperative Weed Management Area. 
  • Continue cooperation with the NRCS on the snow survey program.
  • Encourage the NRCS to develop Order 3 soil surveys on irrigated and intensively used lands and to initiate soil surveys on USFS lands. 
  • Continue a noxious weed control assistance program, which will share the cost of chemical with the cooperators.
  • Continue and increase noxious weed control efforts in the Western Hills area. 
  • Continue cooperation with other groups and agencies on a Rehabilitation Project on the South Fork Recreation Area. Including stream bank restoration, noxious weed control, reseeding and restoration of meadows within the Jiggs CD boundaries. 
  • Manage the district equipment program for benefit of cooperators in implementing conservation practices. 
  • Assist NRCS on outreach programs to ensure that all landusers are aware of available assistance. 
  • Continue cooperation with all agencies on water quality problems when identified within the District. 
  • Monitor the Nevada Water Authorities and other proposed water issues pertaining to Northern Nevada. 
  • Assist Public Land agencies with fire prevention and fire rehabilitation issues. 
  • Cooperate and coordinate with the Jiggs and TenMile Volunteer Fire Departments on fire related issues. 
  • Monitor the biological control project of Leafy Spurge and Canadian Thistle along the Ten Mile Creek, South Fork River and the Ruby Mountains in conjunction with Northeastern Nevada Stewardship Group, with the intention of continuing the biological control after reviewing the progress. 
  • Cooperate and support the Humboldt Watershed CWMA and apply for project funding through them whenever possible. 2 
  • Coordination agency with the BLM, Forest Service, NRCS and other federal agencies. 
  • Cooperate with a Creeks and Communities workshop agencies are planning within the District and bring the concepts into the Plan of Work where ever possible.
