Jennifer Filipiak

Jennifer Filipiak is a natural resource conservationist at the American Farmland Trust, Bloomington Office. She is very involved in AFT’s promotion of cover crops, watershed management and outreach to women farmland owners.

In her previous position with the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Filipiak was responsible for promoting sustainable agriculture, watershed partnerships and best management practices for field crops. 

As director of conservation science at the Nature Conservancy of Iowa field office, Filipiak established overall conservation priorities, supplied technical support to field operations and help create, among other initiatives, the first freshwater program involving agricultural watershed management. 

She also held positions as a wildlife biologist at the Lake County Forest Preserve District in Illinois; served as a volunteer scientist at the Tambopata Reserve Society in Puerto Maldonado, Peru; and was an environmental resources specialist for the Christopher B. Burke Engineering consultancy in Illinois. 

Filipiak holds a master’s degree in wildlife ecology from Southern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University.
