James S. Houser

James has been a practicing forester in the East Texas area since graduating from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Forestry in 1977. His degree emphasis was forest management. James gained most of his field experience working for Applequist & Crater, planting trees and deadening hardwoods prior to graduation. After graduation, he was employed by Mr. Tom Crater as a forester for three and one-half years, leaving to start his own consulting firm in 1981. He and his wife are founders and co-owners of the company FNC Forest Resource Management (previously James Houser, Consulting Foresters, LLC), which they started in 1981.

Mr. Houser is a member and past President (2003) of the Texas Forestry Association, currently serving as a member of the Executive Board and Chairman of the Legislative Committee. He is a member of the Consulting Foresters of America (ACF), serving as Chairman of the ACF Legislative Committee and is past Chapter Chair of the Texas Chapter of ACF. Mr. Houser is member of and a Certified Forester of the Society of American Foresters, is a certified Technical Services Provider (TSP) with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), as well as member of and Certified Tree Farm Inspector with the American Tree Farm System. In December of 2011, Mr. Houser was appointed by United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack to serve a three-year term on the Forest Resource Coordinating Committee (FRCC), which provides advice on private forestry and USDA's programs that assist landowners in managing their forests.
