Heart of the City Farmers' Market
Heart of the City is an independent, farmer-operated non-profit farmers market that was started in 1981 to provide a much needed source of fresh produce to a "food desert" that lacks a grocery store.

Our mission is to support and sustain small-scale growers and help prices stay affordable for this low-income community by keeping our stall fees 50% lower than neighboring markets. More than 80% of food stamps (CalFresh EBT) benefits used at San Francisco farmers markets are used here.

We also provide nutrition education outreach to the surrounding community and donate more than 1,000 pounds of produce each day for free distribution in the Tenderloin neighborhood. We are fondly known as "The Peoples Market" for our diversity and grassroots, family-like cooperation model.

Since our first day over 30 years ago, we've been committed to our mission of helping to create a healthy Heart of the City.
