George Covington has negotiated and drafted conservation easements since the early 1980s. These easements have included high rise office and apartment buildings, homes, farms, and natural areas. He has represented both the donors and recipients of easements.

He is the author of various articles in professional publications, including Conservation Easements: A Win/Win for Preservationists and Real Estate Owners, published in the December 1996 issue of the Illinois Bar Journal.

He is currently on the boards of directors of SCA (Student Conservation Association), Lake Forest Open Lands Association, and Little Traverse Conservancy, and is the founder and a current officer and director of the Les Cheneaux Foundation. He formerly served on the boards of the Illinois Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, the Openlands Project and Corlands, and was the chapter chair of the Illinois chapter of The Nature Conservancy and President of Corlands.

Mr. Covington practiced law for 25 years with the Chicago law firm of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, and since 1995 has practiced law in Lake Forest, Illinois, specializing in land use issues including conservation easements. He is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School.
