From our founding in 1989, these four core values have guided every aspect of our practice. The resulting diverse body of work—ranging from small, intimate interiors to large urban planning projects—reflects the firm’s broad focus on civic life regardless of scale, budget, scope, or complexity.

Eskew+Dumez+Ripple is widely recognized for award-winning, innovative architecture and planning projects, grounded by a strong understanding of context and culture, which resonate far beyond the Southeast region. Housed in an open studio offering expansive views of the Mississippi River and the historic Vieux Carré, our New Orleans-based multi-disciplinary practice is comprised of 45 professionals who offer clients a deep commitment to every project they touch. Our firm size and management protocols are structured to provide hands-on principal involvement in every commission we undertake from conception to completion.

Environmental responsibility has been one of our core values since the firm’s founding. Our work is grounded in a deep understanding of the value of vernacular responses to site and climate while incorporating modern technologies appropriate to today’s high-performance building needs. We believe that design excellence combines beauty, function, economy, and energy performance. To that end, we challenge our staff to base design decisions on an analysis of site and climate, to minimize energy and water use, and to consider the consequences of materials choices on the health of occupants, the greater community, and the environment itself. Some call this approach ‘sustainable design’. We believe it is simply ‘good design’.

As Louisiana’s first corporate member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), the firm has long worked to influence professionals and business leaders alike. Firm members also make frequent presentations to design, business, educational and community organizations to promote the value of sustainable design to the future of our communities.

This practice philosophy affects how we design as well as how our work influences our clients’ bottom-line. We set and track energy performance goals throughout the design and construction phases, as well as long after occupancy to monitor how actual energy consumption performs against benchmark standards. Out of the firm’s commitment has emerged a body of work that equates beauty with performance to create projects of lasting cultural and social value.
