Earl Buss Bayou DeView Wildlife Management Area

Earl Buss Bayou DeView WMA is 4,562 acres and comprises three tracts of land – the Thompson, Oliver and Martin tracts. The area is primarily green tree reservoirs that offer excellent waterfowl hunting. Fall squirrel hunting also is very popular. Deer hunting is limited to archery hunting only, but trophy class bucks are taken on and around the area each season. The name Bayou DeView originated from the Bayou DeView River that meandered through the area, but was channelized many years ago to provide improved drainage for the surrounding farming community. In 1984 the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission renamed the area in memory of Earl Buss, who was a caretaker for the Thompson Duck Club, a private club which was acquired and became part of the area. Lake Hogue, a 300-acre impoundment, is on the east side of the Bayou DeView River. Access to the lake is from U.S. Highway 49, south of Weiner. Crappie, bream, bass and catfish provide year-round fishing opportunity. More than 90 percent of the area is subject to frequent natural flooding making most of the area accessible only by boat.
