Doug Robotham

Doug Robotham manages The Nature Conservancy’s freshwater conservation efforts in four priority watersheds – the Yampa River Basin, the Dolores River Basin, the Poudre River Basin, and the Republican River Basin. He works closely with The Nature Conservancy’s regional program managers and other non-governmental and governmental partners to identify and implement projects and associated public policy that conserve and sustain aquatic ecosystems in these watersheds.

Though having joined The Nature Conservancy's Colorado staff relatively recently, Doug’s career in conservation and natural resource management spans 27 years and includes stints in government and with several non-governmental organizations. Most recently, Doug worked for three and half years as Assistant Director for Lands for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR), where he also previously served in the 1990s as Assistant Director for Water. In between these two appointments at Colorado DNR, Doug served from 1999 to 2007 as director of the Colorado office of the Trust for Public Land, a national non-profit land conservation organization, and as deputy director of policy and programs at the Colorado Conservation Trust . He also served as Special Assistant to the California Secretary of Natural Resources from 1991 to 1993.

A Colorado native, Doug grew up in Denver and on his family's ranch at the foot of Buffalo Pass on the western edge of North Park, one of Colorado’s spectacular montane basins where ranching and native biodiversity have coexisted for over a century. The ranch is now protected with conservation easements held by both The Nature Conservancy and the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust. He holds a master's degree from Yale University's Graduate School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a B.A. from Middlebury College in Vermont.
