Chmielewski's Blueberry Farm

Our farm is located approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Houston.  We have approximately 8 acres of a mixture of Rabbiteye and Southern Highbush Blueberries.  We have 7 different varieties of blueberries mixed over the farm.  Some of the blueberries ripen early in the season, some mid season and some late in the season.  The blueberries start ripening late in May and continue for about 6 weeks (possibly 1 to 2 weeks into July if it doesn’t get to hot and dry).

The farm is strictly “Pick Your Own”.  We open up the farm for people to come out and hand pick their own delicious blueberries.  There are many serious pickers who come out to the farm several times during the season and pick enough blueberries so that they can last for the whole year.  Blueberries freeze very well and can last frozen for up to 2 years.

Some of our pickers come out once or twice during the season to enjoy the treat of having fresh blueberries for baking, cooking or just eating by the handful.  Many of these people bring their families and have made a tradition of visiting our farm year after year.

We have buckets for you to use while you are picking and plastic bags to take your blueberries home with you.  You are always welcome to bring your own container to pick in and to take your berries home.

When you arrive at the farm, check in at the weigh station, grab a bucket or 2 and head out to harvest your blueberries.  We will have certain areas roped off and we ask that you stay out of these areas.  We close these areas to control harvesting the berries at their optimum ripening time.  After an area has been picked for a day or two, all of the really good ripe blueberries are picked.  We close down that section and let them sun ripen for a few days before opening up again for pickers.  The blueberries need a couple of days on the bush after turning blue to really ripen and obtain their optimum sweetness.  The blueberries will not ripen after they have been picked so it is important that you pick only the ripe blueberries (See the Section-Tips for Picking).  Please leave any unripe blueberries on the bush so that they can be harvested another day!

We charge by the pound so when you are finished picking your berries, bring them up to the check out station.  We will weigh and package them for you!
