Anchorage Soil & Water Conservation District

The function of Conservation Districts is to take available technical, financial, and educational resources, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local land users for conservation of soil, water, and related resources

The area within the ASWCD has been part of a District since 1947. The Anchorage District was officially formed from that bigger District by Alaska State Charter in 1997. Our core purpose is to promote smart development through the conservation of Alaska's natural resources. At the heart of our organization is the Alaska Constitutional right to self-governance.

Self-governance is the concept of being responsible for yourself, but also your surroundings. Through education and support, ASWCD assists property owners in conserving and caring for their water and soil resources.

We are a community-based organization that, at the request of the landowner, serves as a non-regulatory agency between the landowner and private and governmental agencies; federal, state, and local.
