Yuba County Resource Conservation Districtlast updated: April 2017

The Yuba County Resource Conservation District assists our landowners and land managers in providing stewardship of the County’s natural resources and educates stakeholders and policy makers about the County’s natural resource base.

The Yuba County Resource Conservation District seeks:

  • A safe and healthy rural environment;
  • A biologically diverse landscape; and
  • A healthy economy for the community

Our Role in Yuba County Land Management

Private land accounts for approximately 73 percent (298,000 acres) of Yuba County’s land base. Consequently, private landowners are vital to the long-term sustainability of the County’s natural resource base. The Yuba County Resource Conservation District (RCD) works with these landowners and land managers to enhance their stewardship of these private lands. In addition, the District works with the various government agencies that manage land within the County. These agencies include the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Air Force, and other federal agencies, which manage approximately 21 percent (86,350 acres) of land within the County. The State of California (through the University of California, the department of Fish and Game and other agencies), manages roughly 4 percent (14,832 acres). The balance of publicly owned land (8,880 acres) is administered by various county agencies.

Yuba County RCD was formed on September 20, 1957. At that time, it was called Marysville Soil Conservation District. Since then, the District has expanded through a number of annexations, the latest of which occurred in 1974. Today, the District covers the entire County, excluding only the cities of Marysville and Wheatland. A board of five directors, elected at large to four-year terms governs the District.
