Tom Carignan

Prudent investors never deploy capital without first knowing a vehicle's past performance and future potential. Yet each year thousands of timberland owners do just that?they deploy large sums of capital in long term investments of unknown value.
In addition to traditional forestry services such as timber marketing, inventory & appraisal, management planning, reforestation, prescribed burning, etc., I also offer growth modeling and financial analysis, allowing clients to compare options based on financial performance before committing capital to a project.
Education:
BS 1987, Forest Management, University of Missouri-Columbia
Experience:
After working my way through forestry school, I continued my education first as a ranch hand in the Kittitas Valley of central Washington and later as a logger in the Cascade Mountains of western Washington. From there I began my forestry work, which took me from the Sierra Nevada of northern California to the ponderosa pine forests of Flagstaff, Arizona to the Inland Empire of northern Idaho to the Bitteroot Mountains of western Montana. In 1989 I settled in the southeastern US where I spent nine years with Vardaman Company, working my way up from Woods Supervisor to District Manager. In 1998 I hung out my shingle and have been a practicing consulting forester ever since.
I have been a member of the Society of American Foresters since 1986 and served as SAF Alabama Division Chair in 2008. I am also an SAF Certified Forester?.
I currently reside in Prattville, Alabama with my two young sons, where we are members of Centerpoint Fellowship. I enjoy outdoor activities and volunteering for non-profit conservation and education groups. De Colores!
Success story:
In 2008 I was asked by the editor of 'Tree Farmer' magazine to write an article about how landowners can benefit from the services of a consulting forester. (At the time, I warned the editor that asking me to write such an article was like asking the Apostle Paul to write about why we should love Jesus?she would probably get more of an answer than she wanted!) She published my article, more or less intact, and it can be viewed online at http://tinyurl.com/coo7zzq.
