Technical Assistance for Wetland Restoration

Our Pennsylvania program was designed to facilitate and expedite the protection and restoration of aquatic systems in critical watersheds. The effort began in the Fall of 2009, as a partnership between the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), BluAcres, LLC, the Foundation for California University of Pennsylvania, local county conservation districts and the Trust. In the first two years of the program, wetland restoration technical assistance was provided on 230 acres of WRP easements. In 2012, the Trust was awarded grants from the Pennsylvania Growing Greener Environmental Program and the NRCS Wetland Reserve Enhancement Program to provide technical assistance to restore an additional 1,815 acres of wetlands and associated buffers in the Ohio River Watershed of Pennsylvania. The Trust and our partners are currently completing the delivery of technical assistance on 22 wetland restoration projects throughout the Ohio River Watershed and 3 projects in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
