Steve Nelle has worked with private landowners in Texas since 1976 providing various types of land, water and wildlife conservation assistance. From 1976 until 2011 he worked for the Soil Conservation Service and NRCS in South Texas, West Texas and Central Texas.  After retirement in 2011 he continues to provide private consultation services primarily in Central, West and South Texas, but occasionally in other regions.  His educational background is B.S. in Range and Wildlife Management at Texas Tech which was renowned at that time for providing the richest and most well rounded rangeland / wildlife habitat education possible.  Nelle now works with small, medium and large ranches who desire to better understand and manage their land and to become responsible land stewards. Working Effectively With Private Landowners

By:
This booklet is a summary of the important elements necessary or helpful for effectively working with private landowners or their managers. The goal in this document is to share some of the things we wished we had realized or known earlier in our careers. Some of it may be obvious, some of it may be insightful, but most of all, I hope it inspires you to view your role as a natural resource conservationist a little differently.
This material contains general principles that are applicable to nearly every situation; however, it is not a cookbook approach since each landowner and each piece of land is different and unique. The material is divided into four parts with considerable overlap and dovetailing between the parts.
