Smoke Hole Natural Area

Smoke Hole Natural Area, located in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, Lonoke and Prairie Counties, contains a mature water tupelo swamp surrounded by forests consisting of a diverse mix of upland and bottomland hardwood tree species. Some tupelo trees within the swamp are up to 60 inches in diameter. The natural area encompasses approximately three miles of Two Prairie Bayou, which is a tributary to Bayou Meto. The channel of Two Prairie Bayou is braided throughout the area creating an ill-defined network of channels.

Hunting
Limited hunting is allowed on this natural area, however public access is extremely limited. It is the hunter’s responsibility to negotiate access with nearby landowners and to contact AGFC for specific regulations before hunting on this natural area.

Directions
From Carlisle, travel 9 miles south on State Highway 13. Turn left onto a county road and continue for 5 miles to the end of road. Park on side of road next to gate and walk east approximately 0.4 mile to the natural area. Caution: public access may be restricted from time to time by a neighboring landowner's locked gate.
