The San Juan Water Conservancy District (“the District”) is a special district under Colorado law created in 1987 to serve the water needs of the over-whelming majority of Archuleta County. The District is not a water provider, but makes sure water resources are available for beneficial use to those who do provide water for the community. This may come in the form of consumptive uses like agriculture, municipal, fire protection and industrial pursuits. This may also mean non-consumptive uses like recreational uses, wildlife habitat, and aesthetics.
