Red River Parish is located in northwest Louisiana and consists of 388.6 square miles. Established March 2, 1871, the parish was named for the Red River which flows through the entire length of the parish. Coushatta is the parish seat and was named for an Indian tribe which once inhabited the area. Pine trees are the number one agricultural commodity grown in the area, followed by cotton and soybeans. Beef cattle is also important. Three major festivals occur in Red River Parish. 

Agriculture & Natural Resources

In 2012, Red River Parish had an estimated 3,700 acres of wheat, 416 acres of rice, 5,800 acres of corn, 6,300 acres of soy-beans, 676 acres of cotton, and 20 acres of pecans. Homeowners, Ranchers, and Farmers were certified or recertified and trained in the proper handling, application and disposal of pesticides. Many calls from stake-holders requesting assistance with their problems, i.e. animals, crops, lawns, and home gardens were answered.
