Piedmont Master Gardeners

The Piedmont Master Gardeners are volunteer educators and enthusiasts who bring scientific knowledge of the best horticultural and landscape management practices to the Central Virginia community. In partnership with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Piedmont Master Gardeners have provided research-based information from the state’s land grant universities and research stations since 1979.

Master Gardener programs train volunteers across the country through the work of each individual state’s Cooperative Extension.  There are almost 100,000 Master Gardeners across 50 states, and 5,500 Master Gardener volunteers in Virginia. In 2012, Piedmont Master Gardener’s 150 volunteers provided nearly 8,000 hours of service to the people of Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

Our Master Gardener volunteers lead community events, can answer your gardening questions, maintain demonstration gardens and more. Piedmont Master Gardeners is made up of members of the local community and we are always looking for new volunteers to join our ranks. Our monthly newsletter, The Garden Shed, provides you with seasonally appropriate information on ornamental gardens, vegetable gardens and lawn care in Central Virginia.
