Phillips County Extension

We are part of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service’s statewide network and the University of Arkansas System’s Division of Agriculture.  Our mission is to provide research-based information through non-formal education to help all Arkansans improve their economic well-being and the quality of their lives.  Whether it is agriculture, 4-H, health and living, or community development, the Phillips County Extension Office is at your service!

Phillips County Agriculture

Phillips County is Row Crop Agriculture. Production acres in the County are almost 400,000 acres and increasing row crop  production is a very important goal to producers. The Phillips County Extension Service program for agriculture is here to assist producers in making Economical Integrated Pest Management decisions in all aspects of production agriculture. The agriculture program is active in doing on farm result demonstrations such as variety selection, insect control and working with glyphosate resistant weeds.

Phillips County Family & Consumer Sciences

Phillips County ranks 74 out of 75 in the county health rankings. 24% of the population has limited access to healthy foods in comparison to 8% for the state. 51% of the children in Phillips County live in poverty in comparison to 28% for Arkansas. The Phillips County Extension Service is dedicated to the community education needs of its residents with relevant programs such as Best Care, Guiding Children Successfully and more.

Phillips County Community Development

The downtown Helena Farmers Market is a collaborative effort to provide local farmers and vendors with a retail outlet for their products, provide citizens the opportunity to purchase fresh, quality products, and promote Helena and Phillips County. The Phillips County Extension Service, as a part of the Farmers Market Committee, gave valuable insight as a partner and exhibitor for the markets inception and continued success.

Phillips County, Arkansas 4-H

4-H is the youth development component of the University Of Arkansas, Division Of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service. It is one of the most rewarding programs any family could be a part of. Youth and their families are offered a world of opportunities to explore new things, form positive attitudes, learn new skills, and generally lay the foundation for a more promising future. Phillips County 4-H offers educational programs to youth throughout the county in 4-H club meetings, workshops, and school enrichment programs.
