2015 will be our 33rd year supplying growers with quality seed for the best varieties out there. Every year we trial and find new and unique vegetables as the offerings from around the globe grow.
Looking over our catalogs from the early days to now, there have been many changes as varieties have come and gone, but we always offered the standards: beans, cabbage, carrots, corn, onions, squash, etc. The changes reflect trends in our eating habits and food preferences. Our catalogs from the 1980s contained almost no herb selection at all; we only had dill and parsley. A few years later we added some of the most widely used herbs: basil, cress, and chives. With the 90s came an awakening and herbs were more in demand. Today our herb offerings take up three pages of the catalog. After years of being ignored, herbs have gone mainstream, and I, for one am very happy about it. When I came to this great country a few decades ago, the only herb I encountered was the "sprig" of parsley on the side of a plate. There was little or no breeding going on in our industry. Big changes came about in the late 90s and that is when we had our first herb picture (basil) on our front catalog cover. The difference herbs make in even the most humble dishes is extraordinary! A considerable number of seed companies are breeding better and more disease tolerant strains. Fresh herbs are available in all the supermarkets and are used in every restaurant and nearly every home kitchen. We are proud to be a part of the herbal renaissance! It is with great excitement that we share our 2015 herb offerings! This list includes over 10 different basil varieties and 20+ herb varieties available in organic seed. If you're looking for an improvement on an old favorite, why not try Peione flat leaf parsley or Jolina basil; if you're feeling adventurous, try some underappreciated herbs like chervil or summer savory. Whether you're looking for a small amount of seed or getting ready to start wholesale microgreens business, we are here to help you source the best herbs available!
