Manistee Conservation Districtlast updated: October 2009

The Manistee Conservation District was organized as a government unit on June 27, 1945, under the name of Manistee Conservation Soil District. The certification of organization was recognized in Act 297 under Public Acts of 1937, which still governs the District's locally elected five member Board of Directors. However, since that time, the name has been changed by eliminating the word "Soil"; conservation better represents the broader range of Natural Resource activities within Manistee County.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provide us (the local District) with office space and technical expertise, in exchange for clerical/office organization and assistance. The partnership between the district and NRCS helps us in providing the landowners of Manistee County with technical assistance for the protection of our local natural resources.
