Madison County is located in east central Texas on the edge of the Pineywoods and the Post Oak Savanna and has a population of approximately 13,000 people. The primary industry in Madison County is agriculture, mainly beef and forage production. The second largest employer is the State of Texas.

The county seat, Madisonville, is located at the junction of Interstate Highway 45 and State highway 21. Madisonville has a population of just less than 4,000 people but is uniquely situated only 35 miles from Bryan/College Station affording it the benefits of a much larger community.

Madison County extension personnel work closely with beef and forage producers in the county to assist them in improving their management practices, and to inform them of changes in their industry.
