Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District

The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (Lone Star Water) helps Montgomery County meet its most critical water challenge – finding the water to grow without continuing to “deficit-pump” the Gulf Coast Aquifer. The county will double again in population by 2040 and it must reduce current groundwater use by 30 percent because use exceeds the recharge of the aquifer – what Lone Star Water calls deficit-pumping. Created by the Legislature and an overwhelming majority of county voters in November 2001, Lone Star Water believes water conservation and alternative water supplies will allow the county’s population and economy to continue to grow.

The mission of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District is to manage and protect the groundwater resources of Montgomery County and to work with others to ensure a sustainable, adequate, high quality and cost effective water supply for current and future needs.
