Land Protection Program

MassWildlife's Land Protection and Habitat Programs are in place to help conserve the diversity of wildlife and plant communities in the Commonwealth for generations to come. Although land protection is a centerpiece of the Commonwealth’s conservation strategy, land protection alone is not enough for long-term conservation in Massachusetts. Some species and community types need direct intervention to remove invasive plants or restore and improve habitats. Protection and management activities benefit common animals, rare plants and animals, as well as game animals. MassWildlife lands are open to the public for walking, hiking, hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife viewing.
