John is a transactional lawyer concentrating his practice in estate planning, succession planning, and business counseling for high net worth individuals and families as well as in municipal, administrative and real estate development law. He advises individuals, families and business clients in the areas of estate and asset preservation, the related area of business ownership transition and the management and preservation of heirloom and legacy family property. He is experienced in using various trusts, quasi-business entities, forms of charitable giving, and conservation easements in conjunction with other estate planning tools. He serves as a fiduciary and advisor for families, their trusts and related estate planning entities. John has mediated disputes within high net worth families and has represented individual family members in similar disputes.
In the area of real estate development, John has assisted hospitals in the development of on and off-campus medical facilities and office condominiums and advises real estate developers in project development, with emphasis on compliance with federal, state and local land use laws and regulations.
John’s municipal practice includes representation of municipalities, municipal officers, water and sewer district boards, grievance commissions and hearing boards. John routinely serves as Town Meeting Moderator for towns and school districts in Mid-Coast Maine, and frequently serves as a freelance Moderator throughout Maine for towns and school districts with unique problems.
