Jarbidge Field Office

The Jarbidge Field Office, located in south-central Idaho, manages nearly 1.4 million acres of public lands, including the remote and rugged Bruneau-Jarbidge Rivers Wilderness and Wild and Scenic Rivers, where visitors experience unsurpassed solitude in canyons of unique beauty and form. Each spring, during a narrow window of time, close to 100 private parties and a few outfitters take on the 69-mile stretch of the Bruneau and Jarbidge rivers. Only experienced boaters generally attempt this float due to challenging rapids, logjams and other hazards. Livestock grazing makes up the grand majority of BLM permitted activity within the Jarbidge Field Office with 93 allotments and 47 permittees; in fact, you better have a full tank of gas if you’re driving across this remote area, there is no place to stop and fuel up within its boundaries! There are also over 100 wild horses roaming south of Glenns Ferry within the Saylor Creek Herd Management Area.
