The Illinois River Watershed Partnership works to improve the integrity of the Illinois River through public education and community outreach, water quality monitoring, and the implementation of conservation and restoration practices throughout the watershed.
MISSION 1: EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
Education outreach is critical to improving and preserving the water quality in the Illinois River watershed.
Educating and motivating stakeholders to take positive personal actions and work together for greater impact is our goal.
MISSION 2: WATER QUALITY MONITORING
Barriers to successful watershed management and restoration efforts often include a lack of ownership among its residents and a feeling that a particular stakeholder is to blame for all water quality issues.
Watershed management is bigger than any one industry or stakeholder group. It is important to move the process of watershed management to a more meaningful level of public understanding, discussion and action. There have been numerous watershed management plans written by each state, yet development and implementation of a comprehensive watershed plan has not been successfully accomplished.
MISSION 3: CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION PROJECTS
The goal of our conservation and restoration efforts is to keep the Illinois River and its tributaries as a fully functioning ecosystem, where ecological protection, conservation and economically productive uses support diverse aquatic and riparian communities, meet all state and federal water quality standards, promote economic sustainability and provide recreational opportunities.
