Forests and Rangelands is an active, cooperative effort between the United States Department of the Interior (DOI), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and their land management agencies. Forests and Rangelands provides fire, fuels, and land management information for government officials, land and wildland fire management professionals, businesses, communities, and interested organizations and individuals.
A Memorandum of Understanding updated and signed in April 2010 by the Secretaries of the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security affirmed the departments’ commitment to the Wildland Fire Leadership Council (WFLC) to support the implementation and coordination of Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy. Forests and Rangelands is one avenue the WFLC uses to communicate these efforts with its partners and publics.
In addition to supporting the mission of the WFLC, Forests and Rangelands provides a portal to information for other interdepartmental and interagency land management efforts including the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy process, Fire Program Analysis (FPA), the Woody Biomass Utilization Strategic Plan, stewardship contracting, forest operations, and land management tools.
