Eastland County Extension

Mission:
To provide quality, relevant outreach and continuing education programs and services to the people in Eastland County by extending the resources of Texas Cooperative Extension to meet identified community needs.

Eastland county was named after Texas gained its independence from Mexico. The county was established in 1873. Its county seat is Eastland – a town of nearly 4,000. Other towns in the county include Cisco, Ranger, Gorman, Rising Star and Carbon. The town of Eastland was named in honor of Captain William M. Eastland who participated in the battle of San Jacinto. In 1917, oil was discovered and boom was started which lasted until 1922. A major highway, I-20, runs east and west on the edge of town.

Recreation in Eastland County includes visits to Lake Leon, the historic Majestic Theater in Eastland and particular historic sights in each of the towns in the county. Hunting and fishing are also popular past-times.

Eastland County’s economy is based on a combination of business, industry and agriculture. The county courthouse is located in the center of Eastland and the county boasts five school systems.
