Christopher B. Amandes

Christopher B. Amandes is a partner in and co-chair of Morgan Lewis's Environmental Practice. Mr. Amandes concentrates his practice on environmental law, with an emphasis on environmental issues in transactions, regulatory compliance counseling, enforcement defense, and resolution of environmental disputes. His practice also covers numerous environmental regulatory issues, including air, solid and hazardous waste, and water quality. Mr. Amandes works at both the federal level and in Texas, and works regularly with a wide variety of industries including petrochemical, refining, power generation, manufacturing, natural resources, and real estate.

Mr. Amandes advises clients on regulatory requirements affecting their operations and helps to identify cost-effective compliance solutions. He assists in minimizing his clients' potential noncompliance by demonstrating compliance, negotiating penalty reductions and appropriate corrective action requirements, performing self-audits, and helping to develop supplemental environmental projects.

Mr. Amandes also represents clients in transaction-related environmental matters, including negotiating environmental risk allocations; drafting contract provisions to address specific environmental issues; and identifying and evaluating significant environmental issues that may affect the value or viability of a particular deal. He has also represented asset sellers and buyers in bankruptcy proceedings and has performed numerous internal investigations of alleged environmental misconduct. Mr. Amandes also represents individuals and corporations in criminal environmental prosecutions.

Mr. Amandes is listed in the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers. He is also ranked in the top tiers of environmental lawyers in Texas by Chambers USA and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 1994.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Amandes was a partner in the energy practice of another international law firm, resident in Houston.

Mr. Amandes earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, in 1985, where he was named to the Order of the Coif and was chief article editor of the UCLA Law Review. He earned his M. Environmental Engineering in 1978 and his B.A., with dual majors in environmental science and engineering and biology, in 1976, both from Rice University.

Mr. Amandes is admitted to practice in Texas.
