Charles S. Weems, III ("Charlie") joined Gold Weems in 1971, and is a shareholder and a member of the Board of Directors of the Firm, currently serving as its President.
Charlie received his B.S. in Accounting in 1965 from Louisiana State University and his J.D. in 1969 from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.
While in law school, he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta, Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi and graduated Order of the Coif. He was also a Member (1966 - 1968) and Editor-in-Chief (1967 -1968) of the Louisiana Law Review.
Charlie is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is Board certified in Tax Law. He has been an elected member of the Council of the Louisiana State Law Institute for many years for many years and currently serves asPresident of the Institute.
Having just completed 17 years of service as a member (1991 - 2008) and Chairman (1998 - 2000) of the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana State University System, Charlie is a member of the LSU Foundation and currently serves on the boards of the Tiger Athletic Foundation and the LSU at Alexandria Foundation. In addition, he is member of the Board of Commissioners of the England Economic and Industrial Development District (the England Authority), and currently serves as its Chairman.

- Acts as counsel to individuals and families, businesses and business owners, boards and non-profit institutions. Works with companies and their owners to examine and plan organizational, tax and business matters, and with individuals and families to address tax, estate planning and succession concerns. This work frequently involves executors, trustees, and beneficiaries. Also works with public and private tax-exempt entities on organizational matters and on issues of exempt status and compliance. Because of his experience, still involved in litigation arising in these areas.
- Successfully resolved by favorable settlement gift tax litigation with IRS over proper valuation of gifts of interests in substantial family LLC.
- Successfully negotiated and closed many substantial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, involving both closely held and public companies in the areas of health care, commercial real estate, communications, retailing, timber and natural resources, and manufacturing.
- Regularly counsels individuals and families on planning for estate and other tax events which may call for asset or business or family entity organization or reorganization to best achieve the client’s objectives.
