Chambers County Public Fishing Lake

This location is temporarily closed as of January 2022. Please check with the Outdoor Alabama website to confirm it has reopened before planning a visit.

Chambers County Lake, one of the prettiest public fishing lakes in Alabama, is a 183-acre lake worth surveying for waders, waterfowl, swallows, Ospreys, and Bald Eagles. Within the woods around Chambers County Lake, there is habitat for Prairie Warblers, Yellow-breasted Chats, and other denizens of second-growth woodlands. There are also quite a few ecologically interesting 'nooks and crannies' associated with this site, such as shrub-laden bluffs and isolated thickets along the 184-acre lakeshore itself. Underground springs and creeks feed into lake.

The forest habitat is young (small stems) in this 50-year old lake and shows signs of regular management (little or no shrub and herbaceous layers; little or no standing or fallen dead timber), and forest habitat is not directly accessible via designated trails, but roadside birding works fine at this quiet site.

Chambers County Public Fishing Lake is open Sunrise to Sunset as follows:

February 1 to November 30: open 6 days a week, closed on Tuesday.
