Fire and the Future of Yellowstone 1989 to 2011

As a brief followup to our Wood for Haiti blogs, here is a satellite image perspective direct from the NASA Earth Observatory that provides a compelling story of the effects of fire on western forests.  The trick is, fire is generally healthy - to a point.  Wood for Haiti's argument for harvest of some beetle-killed wood in Montana and Idaho is one designed to keep the level of western forest wildfire to a healthy level.
