Scott County Soil And Water Conservation District

The Scott County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), was founded in 1953 and is a political subdivison of the Commonwealth of Virginia whose boundaries are the same as those for Scott County.  The District is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. 

All Scott County citizens can have a voice in resource and conservation planning by attending monthly board meetings, communicating their concerns, and participating in District programs.  Scott County SWCD is involved in a wide range of programs encouraging community participation in conserving and protecting soil, water, and other related natural resources. 

The purpose of the Scott County SWCD is to give local citizens the ability to work on conservation problems at a local level.  We want to help provide the necessary technical expertise to assist the community in identifying, discussing, and solving local conservation issues.  Our community constituents are farmers, homeowner, developers, teachers, youths, local businesses, agencies, elected officials and their staff, and other residents interested in conservation. 

Mission

To promote responsible natural resource management by providing educational assistance and technical support to citizens, municipalities, and other agencies.

Vision

To assist and educate all citizens to become better stewards of land and water resources, thereby preserving nautral resources for future generations.

Meetings

Scott County SWCD holds monthly board meetings at the USDA Service Center in Gate City.  They are the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m.  All meetings are open to the public.
